The new walkway is a great addition to the meetinghouse
and its surroundings. It
would bring people past the
new sign, past the gardens
and directly to the front
entrance. It makes it easier
for people, especially those
who are handicapped, to
walk to the front ramp
instead of going into the
street. During the winter
and when it rains, the street
gets icy and the road is full
of muddy puddles. Then, of
course, there are cars and it
is very dangerous for little
kids to go right into the
street on their way out of
Meeting or back from school.

The walkway took us a lot of time but it was worth it. People from the Meeting and
First Day School spent more than four hours working on
putting down gravel all along the path and then putting the pavers in, making sure
that they were level. We
still need to level some that
have settled and then add a
top sealer that will hold
everything in place.
It all started when the First
Day School Meeting, acting as the Building Committee,
went out to look at the
gardens to see what needed
to be done for spring
planting.

Then we thought that a walkway would be a good idea for the Meeting and the community. We asked Kim Wiegand to come down and talk to us about how to build
a walkway. She told us how a walkway is built and showed
us the different kinds of pavers we could have. Then we picked what we wanted, the we could have. Then we
picked what we wanted, the color, the design, and then we
planned and measured the
walkway and we figured out
the costs.
After that, the FDS Meeting brought the project to Meeting for Business in |
Saylesville. After the FDS Meeting presentation, everybody agreed that it was a good idea and we got the go ahead. We sprayed the outline of the walkway and a landscaper dug it out for us.Then we asked everybody to help. We had many people
helping us on June 1st. Kim
Wiegand and Peter Swaszek
guided the group of workers
and Bob Elliott, Pierre Morenon, Ron Dass, and
more strong men spent
hours moving the stone
post that was in the way.
It was hard work for
everyone but the walkway
is in and it is beautiful!
Take a walk! |
