Message from the Clerk by Austin
I learned a great deal in the past year as clerk of First Day School Meeting and sincerely enjoyed it. This is our second running as meeting, much like the larger Meeting with committees and a clerk. We transitioned from a teacher and student classroom approach into operating as an actual Quaker Meeting with great success. In the past two years students learned how Quakers contribute to the world and actively done so themselves. Our accomplishments as a meeting were numerous this year. We collected canned goods for the Camp Street Ministries and also hosted an immensely successful April Fools Potluck. We are working on a long term project – Emergency Disaster Kits – which is a work in progress.

I will continue to attend meeting and hope to spend time with First Day School next year. The students of First Day School amaze me with their great ideas and contributions. Though our First Day School Meeting is run by children, it is guided by adults. In just two years, many great things came out of our meeting. They were made possible through the direction, support and motivation of Nina Berry, Hans-Dieter Gomes, Mark Conley, Rebecca Smith, Elaine Myer, Elsie Morse and many others who contributed to our successes – thank you for a great year!

Just a Reminder by Joshua
If during your summer travels, you do not use the soaps, hand lotion, sewing kits, etc., provided in your room, please consider bringing these to help First Day School Meeting complete our disaster kit project. In addition, baby-wipes and small Purell bottles are needed. There will be a box located downstairs to collect these items.

Over this summer, we continue to ask for donations of canned food and nonperishable food items for Camp Street Ministries. This collection box is located directly inside the front entrance.

Enjoy a pleasant summer and we look forward to seeing everyone in September. Have a great vacation.

Disaster Kit Update by Nick
The Disaster Kits are getting in shape slowly but surely.

We have gotten 100 first aid kits from Roger Williams Medical Center, 120 granola bars from Whole Foods Market, 25 backpacks from Citizens Bank and 200 small bottles of shampoo and conditioner from a Providence hotel.

This project has been going on for the whole year and this was the biggest project we have worked on.

We still need the following and ask Friends to please bring in:

  • Flashlights with separate batteries
  • Whistles
  • Compass
  • Wipes
  • Purell
  • 75 more backpacks

And, as Joshua said above,

  • hotel soaps
  • lotion
  • sewing kits
